ABOUT US

The PRBG is a not-for-profit association formed under the Associations Incorporation Act 2015, providing declared pest control services for pastoral land managers throughout the local government areas of Ashburton, East Pilbara, Port Hedland, Karratha and some pastoral properties in the lower area of the local government area of Broome.

The associations’ primary purpose is the control of declared pests utilising funding from the Declared Pest Rates paid by landholders on these pastoral stations. These Declared Pest Rates funds are matched dollar for dollar by the WA Government to reflect the public benefit of controlling declared pest animals and weeds.

The association is formally recognised by the Hon Minister for Agriculture and Food as a recognised biosecurity group (RBG).

AREA OF OPERATION

The PRBG area of operation takes in the Shires of Ashburton and East Pilbara, Town of Port Hedland and City of Karratha. Along with additional pastoral properties in the Shire of Broom.  There are over 75 pastoral leases covering some 13.9 million hectares; multiple Aboriginal Reserves and approximately 39.7 million hectares of land that is classified as Unallocated Crown Land (UCL), Vacant Crown Land (VCL), or land under the control of the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA).

The population for the AREA area is approximately 62,700, with this number and numbers across the PRBG region increasing exponentially during the tourism season.  Our largest town is Karratha, with a population of approximately 23,000 residents.

The PRBG region includes Karijini, Millstream Chichester and Murujuga National Parks, Cane River Conservation Park, Barlee Range and Mungaroona Nature Reserves, multiple mining leases and large pockets of UCL/VCL.

The types of land tenures and access to them continues to change, with PRBG working closely with DBCA regional office that is responsible for the management of these and other such properties within our region to ensure, where possible access is granted and pest control activities are undertaken.  This assistance ensures minimal impact to neighbouring pastoral properties and assists DBCA in meeting its obligations under the BAM Act.

The PRBG shares its northern boundary with the Kimberly Rangelands Biosecurity Association (KRBA), the southern  boundaries with the Carnarvon Rangelands Biosecurity Association (CRBA) , Meekatharra Rangelands Biosecurity Association (MRBA) and Goldfield Nullarbor Regional Biosecurity Association (GNRBA)
